HOW TO: A Sophisticated All Black Look
April 24, 2017
I used to love black until it became a uniform for 99.9% of the fashion students, stylists or whoever works in fashion. It felt like a suffocating colour, used by people who wanted to go with the safe choice - as if they felt insecure, a colour of wannabes and insipid people wanted to be the new cool kids on the block. Well, they weren't to me. For me it looked as lame on them as whatever they would wear - that's because I went to the Art School so it was packed with this type of people wearing their all black uniform like some Gods fell on the Earth - guys, you still make me laugh.
But time passed and I know I can proudly wear all-black without looking like a tired student. Black is sophisticated, but you have to know how to wear it. For me, accessorising it is the key. I never go for a full all-black look, it's always with a twist. This one is inspired by the Reinassance and I love to call it The New Reinassance, haha.
I went for my puffy shoulder embroidered jumper mixed with a pair of silk trousers, embroidered velvet mules, statement pearl earrings and a gorgeous snakeskin mini bag. A yellow eyeliner (don't try it if you have small eyes, it will make them appear smaller) and a dark lip is all I needed to complete the look. Freshly washed hair is a must for me, so I'm not gonna mention it.
This is how you can build a sophisticated all-black look, don't be afraid to go for a bold pair of earrings and to mix different fabrics, one more precious than the other (that's the secret to be honest). Choose your accessories wisely.
