So, Who Are You?
August 17, 2016I have been and still am a seeker, but I have ceased to question stars and books; I have begun to listen to the teaching my blood whispers to me.Hermann Hesse
Yes, I decided to start today's post with a quote. Actually an excerpt. One that defines my life now.
We read so much stuff: publications, books, magazines, etc. There is a lot of information passing through our brains and it becomes more and more difficult to actually follow it, and to be able to trust the source (I'm talking about non-fiction, obviously). We rely on someone else's opinions and life experience stories that we forget to create our own. We live so much through others that sometimes we forget we exist. We follow the trends blindingly just because a hand of designers together with their team decided what's best this season. And your favourite magazines together with their editors promote it. Don't worry, they might not even like it; it's their job and they're getting paid to do it.
So, who are you? What percent of yourself is actually...yourself? Can you tell the fact from fiction? Do you really like the clothes that you're wearing or your job? Do your colleagues really make you laugh? Do you really like the people that are in your life now? Or are you just trying to get by? Because if you're trying to just get by, you'd better stop. Right now.
Get rid of people you dislike, get rid of the food you dislike ("just because it's healthy"), get rid of publications (either digital or printed) that you don't trust, get rid of all the clothes you bought because they're "in". And start being yourself. Start living authentic. Why? Because you are precious and you will start changing the world by spreading your wings out there. Let the world hear your voice.
The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are
Carl Jung
And to quote again a reliable source, I believe in her words and there is no better way to put it:
Being authentic is more than being real; it is finding what is real. And what is real for me will be quite different than what is real for you. There is no value attached: it simply is what it is for each of us. If your sexual orientation, spiritual beliefs or chosen path is different than mine, we are both okay with it. (Diane Mottl, MSW - that stands forMaster of Social Work)
All you have to do is open your eyes and your heart and find yourself. Start believing in what your blood whispers to you.
Lots of love,
